Brother John Walsh lived a full life of family, commitment, leadership, idea origination and innovation, management and professional accomplishments. John was a top property developer and had a primary role in defining University City. He was well known for enabling Our Mother of Confidence Church to be where it is. What began as a small starter church grew into a building and then a full property and church complex development.
On April 6, 2021 the University City News said “Today the San Diego City Council approved Councilmember Joe LaCava’s proclamation of establishing April 6, 2021 as John Walsh Day. John Walsh’s many contributions to the development of University City as we know it today are worthy of this historic tribute.”
He initiated and ran the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance, a very popular yearly event. He was also in our Knights of Columbus contingent in the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade and our local Fourth of July – Standley Park – Marathon and Breakfast. John passed away on January 7th, 2025 at The Shores Post-Acute facility in San Diego.
